A YouTube channel for a business works when it answers what your customers ask themselves before buying, not when it repeats your adverts. Approach it like any channel that wants to last: a specific audience, topics that can fill many videos, a recognisable tone and a publishing rhythm your team can sustain while reviewing every video.

What a business wants a channel for

Before the first video, write down in one sentence what you expect from the channel. The goals that fit YouTube best are the ones that help the person searching:

  • Answer the questions that come up most. What people ask you by phone, at the counter or by email is a ready-made list of videos.
  • Explain how something works. A process, product or service that is hard to grasp in writing is easier to understand when shown with images.
  • Show judgement. Which mistakes you often see, which option you recommend depending on the case, what is changing in your sector.
  • Support people after the purchase. Care, maintenance, first steps.

What tends not to work is using the channel as a shop window for adverts. An advert answers what you want to say; a video people search for answers what they want to know. The channel earns the audience's trust with the second.

Create the channel in the business's name

The channel has to belong to the business, not to the person who set it up. YouTube's help pages solve this in two steps:

  • A channel with the business's name. YouTube lets you create a channel with a business name or another name, which can have more than one manager or owner, and connect it to a Brand Account if you want to use a name on YouTube that is not the name of your Google account.
  • Permissions instead of passwords. With channel permissions you give other people access to the channel's data, tools and features on YouTube and YouTube Studio, with five permission levels and without them needing access to your Google account. YouTube presents this as safer than sharing your password.

Decide from the start who is the owner, who uploads the videos and who only reviews them. If someone leaves the business, their access is removed from the channel permissions.

The editorial line: what to cover and what not to

The editorial line is written in a short document that we call the channel bible; you can find the full guide in a YouTube channel bible. In a business, four sections matter more than the rest:

  • Audience. Your typical customer, what they already know and what they decide after watching the video.
  • Pillars. Three or four topics that can fill many videos without leaving what you know how to do.
  • What the channel never says. Prices that change, promises of results, customer names without their permission, comparisons with competitors.
  • Who reviews. A person who knows the subject thoroughly reads every script before it is produced.

Once the pillars are clear, choose formats. A made-up example, for a gardening shop:

FormatWhat it is forExample
Step-by-step explainerSolving a specific questionHow to repot an olive tree
Common mistakesGetting ahead of your customers' problemsWhy the leaves of a lemon tree turn yellow
List or comparisonHelping people choosePlants that cope with a terrace in full sun
Seasonal calendarReminding people what to do and whenWhat to do in the garden in autumn
Sector explainersSharing what you know and the customer does not seeHow a good growing medium is prepared

Notice that none of them is about the shop: they are all about what worries people who own plants. The shop appears in the channel, in the description and in the way you explain things, not in every sentence.

How to produce it without stopping the business

A business channel runs one risk besides doing it badly: abandoning it after a few months because it competes with the day-to-day work. Three decisions prevent that:

  1. A rhythm you can sustain. One video every two weeks for a year is better than four in a month and none afterwards. Put it in a calendar with dates.
  2. Series instead of one-off videos. A series (“Garden mistakes”, “What you ask us”) organises the work and gives viewers a reason to come back. Each episode has to say something different.
  3. A clear division of roles. The person who knows the subject contributes and reviews the content; the person producing handles the script, voice, images and editing; and someone approves before publishing. In a small business these can be the same person, but not at the same moment: leave a day between writing and reviewing.

Nobody has to appear on camera. A narrated video with images works very well for explaining, and the voice can be yours or an AI one; we cover this in YouTube channel without showing your face. If you use photos of your business, note who took them and with what permission: it will save you doubts when you reuse them.

People who appear in your videos

Business videos often feature people: employees, customers, collaborators. In Spain, the Ley Orgánica 1/1982 (Organic Law 1/1982) on the civil protection of the right to honour, personal and family privacy and one's own image counts among unlawful intrusions the use of a person's name, voice or image for advertising, commercial or similar purposes. There is no unlawful intrusion when the law expressly authorises it or when the person has given express consent, and that consent can be revoked at any time, with any compensation that applies for the damages caused.

In practice: ask for permission before recording or using someone's photo or voice, keep a record of that permission and plan what you will do if someone withdraws it. How to draft that permission depends on the case: consult a professional. And if, with AI, it seems that a real person says or does something they have not said or done, YouTube indicates that creators must disclose it; the details are in altered or synthetic content on YouTube.

How to tell whether the channel is working

Views count, but they do not tell a business everything. Also look at:

  • Which videos are watched for longer and which are abandoned early.
  • Whether the questions that already have a video reach you less often by phone or email.
  • How much each video costs to produce compared with what it returns.
  • What people ask in the comments: they are ideas for the next videos.

Compare your videos with each other, not with channels in other sectors, and do not draw conclusions from two or three videos. We explain how to work out what each one costs in how much it costs to make a video with AI.

How the Estudio de Canales fits into a business

The Estudio de Canales is a product of AVANZAIA TECH SL designed for creators with one or several channels and for businesses that want their own channel. It is the tool your team uses to produce the videos: the AI works on each phase and you decide and approve. What it offers a business:

  • The editorial line, applied. The channel bible stores identity, topics, editorial and visual style, and channel rules, with their versions. If the script contains something the channel must never say, or any of its forbidden topics, you get a warning.
  • Limits for the AI. The instructions the AI receives ask it not to give medical, legal or financial advice as if it were a professional, and not to invent data, figures, quotes or sources. Every claim in the script is reviewed, and it becomes verified when a person adds a source to it.
  • Ideas with their reasoning, series and calendar. The AI proposes ideas based on the bible and the channel's series, and every video you plan goes into the calendar with its date.
  • Your voice or an AI one, and your own assets. You can choose an AI voice from several models and speakers, or use your own: you upload the recording or record it in the browser with a teleprompter. Images can be AI-generated or your own assets, each with its licence and origin recorded.
  • Costs and results in view. Every AI operation is logged with its estimated cost, per video, per scene and per model. With the video published and your Google account connected, you see its figures and the cost per thousand views compared with the estimated cost of producing it.
  • Several channels. If the business runs more than one, each channel has its own bible, style and series.

The script, the preview and the master need your approval, and the studio does not publish to your channel on its own: you download the package, upload it yourself in YouTube Studio and paste the link to follow its results. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC, and this studio is not sponsored or endorsed by YouTube.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth a small business having a YouTube channel?

It depends on whether your customers search for answers you can give on video: frequent questions, how a product is used, which option to choose. If so, and you can sustain a publishing rhythm with review, a channel narrated over images does not require you to appear on camera or have recording equipment.

Should the channel sit on an employee's personal account?

It is not advisable. YouTube lets you create a channel with the business's name, with more than one manager or owner, and give other people access with channel permissions without sharing the password.

What videos can a business make with AI?

The ones that explain: answers to frequent questions, common mistakes, comparisons to help people choose and explainers about your sector. AI helps with the script, voice, images and editing; the facts and the judgement come from the person who knows the business.

Do I need permission for my employees to appear in the videos?

In Spain, the Ley Orgánica 1/1982 (Organic Law 1/1982) treats using a person's image or voice for commercial purposes without their express consent as an unlawful intrusion, unless the law authorises it. Ask for that consent before recording and consult a professional on how to formalise it.
