Can you monetise a channel made with AI? What YouTube says

Yes, a channel made with AI can be monetised if it meets the same policies as any other channel in the YouTube Partner Program. What those policies do not accept is not AI, but content that is not original and authentic: mass-produced, generic or repetitive content, and content reused without significant input of your own. YouTube's own policies give as a monetisable example using AI to visualise a unique character and narrative of your own invention, and as non-monetisable, AI-generated content with generic templates that gives the impression of being mass-produced. Nobody can guarantee you income: the channel goes through a review on entry and continues to be reviewed afterwards.
What YouTube requires to join the programme
According to the official page “YouTube Partner Program overview & eligibility”, to take part you need to:
- Comply with YouTube's channel monetisation policies.
- Live in a country or territory where the programme is available.
- Have no active Community Guidelines strikes on your channel.
- Have 2-Step Verification turned on for your Google account.
- Have access to advanced YouTube features.
- Have an active AdSense for YouTube account linked to your channel, or be able to create one in YouTube Studio.
In addition, the channel has to reach one of these two thresholds:
- 1000 subscribers and 4000 valid watch hours in the last 12 months, or
- 1000 subscribers and 10 million valid Shorts views in the last 90 days.
Reaching the threshold does not put you in the programme: every channel that reaches it goes through a standard review process, carried out by automated systems and human reviewers over the whole channel, normally within about a month. And a channel that does not comply with the monetisation policies cannot monetise its content, regardless of its watch hours and subscribers.
The same page announces changes to the programme from 1 February 2027 and asks anyone who wants to keep fully monetising their content to review and accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio before 31 January 2027. These requirements change over time: check them on the official page before planning anything.
Generic or repetitive content: the risk of an AI channel
YouTube's channel monetisation policies require that the content be your own original creation and not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive or manipulative in intent. In a note dated 15 July 2025, YouTube explained that it was making a small change to its repetitious content policy to clarify that it includes repetitive or mass-produced content, and that it was renaming it “inauthentic content”.
Among its examples of content that cannot be monetised are:
- Repetitive or similar content with little educational value, little commentary or narrative, or minimal variation between videos.
- Slideshows, stories created from templates or scrolling text with limited or no educational value.
- AI-generated content with generic or low-originality templates that gives the impression of being mass-produced without the creator's own ideas or perspectives.
- Videos that combine unrelated or incoherent AI clips to shock or impress.
And among those that can be monetised: a multi-episode series in which each video has a different plot, approach or concept; content that uses AI to visualise a unique character and narrative of your own invention; or content that uses creative tools, such as AI to edit scripts or generate a visual background, to deliver a unique and well-researched narrative. The sentence that sums it up is in the policy itself: if you use automated tools or templates, the final product must still show your creative vision and provide educational or entertainment value.
Reused content
The other policy that most affects automated channels is the one on reused content: that of channels that upload content that is already on YouTube or another online source without adding significant original commentary, substantial modifications or educational or entertainment value. Three details matter:
- It applies to the channel as a whole: if some videos breach it or YouTube cannot confirm that you created the content, it may disable monetisation across the entire channel.
- It applies even if the original creator has given you permission.
- Among its non-monetisable examples is content that exclusively reads out third-party materials, such as the text of a website or news feeds. A video that just puts a synthetic voice on someone else's article falls squarely here.
AI-generated people and sensitive topics
The policies include a specific section: channels that use AI-generated people to present themselves as a human expert advising on health, legal matters, finance or politics cannot monetise that content. Among the examples YouTube gives are an AI-generated “doctor” offering diagnoses and AI-generated podcast hosts offering financial guidance.
Does declaring AI affect monetisation?
No, according to YouTube's help on AI-generated content: acknowledging that content was generated with AI does not limit the video's audience or affect monetisation. What can have consequences is failing to declare it: creators who consistently choose not to disclose that information may face penalties from YouTube such as suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. When you have to mark it is explained in altered or synthetic content on YouTube.
How to set up an AI channel that fits the policies
- An angle of your own. Define in the channel bible what your channel offers that others do not: your judgement, your way of explaining, your speciality.
- Real variation between videos. In a series, each episode needs a different plot, approach or concept. If you can swap two videos without anyone noticing, one is redundant.
- Research and sources. A well-researched video adds value; one that rephrases the first thing a model returned does not. That is the approach in a script with every fact checked.
- Your presence in the video. Your opinion, your voice or your examples. You do not need to appear on camera: there are ideas in how to have a YouTube channel without showing your face.
- No reading out other people's texts. Comment, compare, explain; do not limit yourself to voicing other people's content.
- Consistency. YouTube states that it may disable monetisation on channels that have not uploaded any video or posted anything in the Posts tab for 6 months or more.
What the Estudio de Canales adds (and what it does not)
The Estudio de Canales does not promise virality, and entry into the programme and income depend on YouTube and on your channel. What it does is organise the work. The channel bible stores identity, topics, editorial and visual style, and channel rules, and series carry their variation rule so that each episode says something different. Ideas carry their rationale in text, with no “viral score”, and their sources are supplied by a person. Every claim in the script is reviewed, and the script, the preview and the master need your approval. If the video includes AI-generated assets, the package comes out with the altered or synthetic content notice already ticked. Frequently asked questions
Does YouTube monetise videos made with AI?
YouTube's monetisation policies do not exclude AI: they give as a monetisable example using AI to visualise a unique character and narrative of your own invention. What is not monetised is mass-produced, generic, repetitive or reused content with no input of your own.
What are the requirements to join the YouTube Partner Program?
Among others, complying with the monetisation policies, having no active strikes, having 2-Step Verification and reaching 1000 subscribers with 4000 valid watch hours in the last 12 months, or 1000 subscribers with 10 million valid Shorts views in the last 90 days.
If I reach the threshold, do I get in automatically?
No. Every channel that reaches the threshold goes through a standard review process of the whole channel, which usually takes about a month.
Does marking a video as made with AI reduce earnings?
According to YouTube's help, acknowledging that content was generated with AI does not limit the video's audience or affect monetisation.
Does the Estudio de Canales guarantee monetisation?
No. Entry into the Partner Program and income depend on YouTube and on your channel, and the studio does not promise virality. What it does is organise the work: bible, series with a variation rule, ideas with their rationale, verified script and your approval.
