Multiple YouTube channels on one account: how and when

Yes, you can have several YouTube channels with the same Google account, that is, with the same Google email: YouTube's help says you can manage up to 100 channels with a single Google account. Each channel with a different name is linked to a Brand Account, and on YouTube you use one at a time, switching channels from your profile picture. Before opening the second, it is worth asking whether you really need another channel or whether a new series on the one you already have is enough.
Several channels on one account: what YouTube says
A Google account can manage many channels, but with nuances worth knowing before you start:
- Up to 100 channels per Google account. This is the figure the help gives for managing channels with a single account.
- One channel per Brand Account. Channels with a different name are linked to a Brand Account, and if that Brand Account already has a channel, you cannot create another on it.
- One at a time. On YouTube you can only use one channel at a time; when you sign in on a computer, you confirm which one you want to use.
- New Brand Accounts are for YouTube only. Since 4 August 2021, those that are created can only be linked to YouTube channels and are designated “(limited to YouTube)”; those created before that date do not change.
One more detail: in the feature table in YouTube's help, “Add additional channels to your account” appears in the group of advanced features, but the same table also marks it as available with phone number verification. If it will not let you create the second channel, start by verifying the channel; we explain this in how to verify your YouTube channel.
How to create a second channel
The second channel is created like any channel with a different name:
- Sign in to YouTube from a computer or the mobile website.
- Go to the list of channels.
- Click Create a new channel, or choose a Brand Account that you already manage and that does not yet have a channel.
- Choose a profile picture, a name and a handle.
- Click Create channel.
Each channel has its own name and handle (@), which are worth choosing with the same care as the first: we explain this in YouTube channel names. And if it is your first channel, start with how to create a YouTube channel.
How to switch from one channel to another
To move from one of the channels you manage to another:
- In the top-right corner of youtube.com, click your profile picture.
- Select Switch account. The list of channels you manage and your Google account identity appear.
- Click the channel you want to use.
To know which channel you are on, look at the name and icon in the top-right corner. It is a habit worth building before you comment or upload anything: with several channels, it is easy to reply to a comment from the wrong channel.
If a channel does not appear in the list, there are two cases. If you have permission to access it, switch channels from studio.youtube.com. If it is linked to a Brand Account and does not show up, your Google account is not listed as a manager of that Brand Account.
Who manages each channel
With several channels, not all of them may be run by the same people. YouTube offers two pieces:
- Brand Account owners. Every Brand Account has a primary owner, and YouTube's help recommends having at least one other owner besides them. Be careful: if you delete the primary owner account linked to a channel, the channel is deleted too.
- Channel permissions. From YouTube Studio, under Settings > Permissions, you give other people access with five different permission levels, without them having access to your Google account. Invitations expire 30 days after they are sent.
If you have a Brand Account, you first have to migrate to channel permissions in order to use them. A simple split: you as owner of all of them, and each collaborator with access only to the channel they work on. If the channels belong to a business, you will find more on this in a YouTube channel for businesses.
One channel or several?
More channels does not mean more reach: it means more work. Each channel needs its own publishing rhythm, identity and audience, and starts from zero. A practical rule:
| Situation | What usually makes sense |
|---|---|
| The topics are different, but the audience is the same | One channel, with a series for each topic. |
| Audiences that do not overlap (for example, a recipes channel and a programming one) | Separate channels: someone who comes for one is not interested in the other. |
| The same content in another language | It depends on how much you will produce in each language. A channel of its own for each is easier to understand, but doubles the work of maintaining it. |
| A very different format (long live streams versus edited videos) | Often the same channel, if the audience comes for you and the topic more than for the format. |
| A business and your personal channel | Separate, with the business one on a Brand Account with several owners. |
If in doubt, start with one and a good series structure. You can open the second when the first already has momentum; splitting a small audience between two half-built channels is much harder to undo.
How to organise several channels so they do not get mixed up
- One bible per channel. Audience, topics, tone, visual style and what the channel never says. With two bibles in view, it is immediately clear whether an idea belongs to one channel or the other. How to write it: a YouTube channel bible.
- Identities that cannot be confused. Different colours, typefaces and profile pictures, so that viewers know which channel they are on just by seeing the thumbnail.
- A shared calendar, filterable by channel. That way you see at a glance whether in a given week you have three videos on one channel and none on the other.
- A realistic pace for each channel. If you do not have the time for both, slow down the secondary one before the main one.
- Permissions per channel. Each collaborator on the channel they work on and with just the right level.
- Results kept separate. Do not compare a new channel with an established one: compare each video with the earlier ones on its own channel.
Several channels in the Estudio de Canales
The Estudio de Canales is designed to run one or several channels in the same place. The website presents two plans depending on how many channels you run: “Creador” (Creator), for one channel, and “Estudio” (Studio), for those who run several. Here is what it does with several channels:
- Each channel, its own bible and series. Each channel's bible has its own versions, and series (with their format and variation rule) belong to one channel.
- One calendar for all of them. Planned videos are shown by date, for all channels or filtered by one.
- Active, paused or archived channels. You can pause a channel without losing its bible or series.
- Learnings kept separate. Comparisons only use videos from the same channel. They come from the private analytics the studio stores, so only the channel linked to the connected Google account has them.
A limit today that is worth knowing: each studio account supports a single YouTube connection, and private analytics are only read from the channel of the connected Google account. The other channels can be linked by their public ID (the one that starts with “UC”), with their public figures and their videos, but without private analytics. In addition, one YouTube channel can only be linked to one of the studio's channels.

Frequently asked questions
Can I have several YouTube channels with the same Google account?
Yes. YouTube's help says you can manage up to 100 channels with a single Google account. Channels with a different name are linked to a Brand Account, and on YouTube you use one at a time.
Can I have several channels with the same email?
Yes: the email is that of your Google account, and from that account you manage all the channels. For Brand Accounts you do not need another username or password.
How do I switch from one channel to another?
On youtube.com, click your profile picture, select “Switch account” and choose the channel. To check which one you are on, look at the name and icon in the top-right corner.
Why can't I create a second channel?
The Brand Account you choose may already have a channel: in that case you cannot create another on it. Verification may also play a part: the feature table in YouTube's help marks “Add additional channels to your account” as available once you have verified with a phone number.
Is the Estudio de Canales suitable for running several channels?
Yes. Each channel has its own bible with versions and its series, and the calendar shows the videos of all channels or of one. Today private analytics are only read from the channel of the connected Google account; the others are linked by their public ID.
